It’s Summer. Protect Yourself with Proper Riding Gear!
Tips
It’s summer! The best time of the year to ride a motorcycle. That smile on your face when you pass endless traffic jams heading to the beach… you, cruising freely, fresh air hitting your helmet, enjoying the road with the perfect summer look.
Flip-flops, shorts, sleeveless shirts — maybe even your passenger dressed the same way. That’s summer, right?
Well… NO. That’s not freedom. That’s risking your vacation.
Summer Roads Fill Hospitals Too
Every summer, hospitals see an increase in injured riders. Riders who suffer painful road rash — sometimes severe — that in 90% of cases would have been nothing more than a minor scare if they had been dressed properly.
On a motorcycle, protection is not optional. A simple slide can turn into weeks of painful wounds that are slow to heal.
Helmet: Always Mandatory, Always Essential
The helmet is obviously required, but it should also meet proper safety standards. In summer, many riders choose open-face helmets, but a full-face helmet will always offer a higher level of protection in case of a fall.
Gloves: Absolutely Indispensable
Gloves should be worn all year round.
In winter, they protect you from the cold. In summer, they protect you from something worse: asphalt.
During a fall, we instinctively put our hands down. That is why hand injuries are often severe — and extremely inconvenient during healing. Just imagine trying to do something as simple as swimming with open wounds.
Long-Sleeve Jacket, Even in Hot Weather
A proper motorcycle jacket is essential. Today there are highly resistant fabrics designed with ventilation, made specifically for warm climates.
Choose one — it can save you from serious discomfort and injury.
Footwear: Flip-Flops Are Not an Option
Proper boots or shoes should fully cover the foot, be resistant, and have a firm sole.
They protect you in a crash, but also provide stability if you need to put a foot down suddenly in an emergency maneuver.
Long Pants: Protection for Hips and Knees
The same goes for trousers. There are summer riding pants that are not overly hot and include built-in protection in key impact areas such as knees and hips.
A Simple Slip Can Ruin Your Whole Summer
Every time we see riders dressed for the beach instead of the road, we immediately think of what a small slide across asphalt can do: painful injuries and an entire summer spoiled.
Be smart. Be consistent. Dress properly. It’s our best summer advice.
