Motor Maids is one of the oldest motorcycle clubs in history, and it has a very special feature… it is made up exclusively of women!
Founded in the United States in 1940, the club now has more than 1,300 female riders across the US and Canada. Motor Maids is one of the oldest motorcycle clubs ever created — even older than the world-famous Hells Angels M.C., which was formed in 1947.
In its early years, “The Motor Maids of America” was a social club for women motorcyclists, bringing together some of the most influential female riders in the American motorcycle scene.
The club was founded by Linda Dugeau, an enthusiastic motorcyclist whose goal was clear: to prove that women could ride motorcycles while still embracing their femininity, challenging the typical stereotypes that female bikers were “masculine” or did not fit traditional expectations.
Interestingly, the representative color of the Motor Maids was originally pink until 1944, when it was replaced by blue and silver — the colors used in their first official logo and emblem.
Since the purpose of Motor Maids was to give visibility to women riders, members were required to legally own and ride their own motorcycle, or one belonging to a close family member.
Today, the club has members in almost every US state — including Hawaii and Alaska — as well as in several Canadian provinces.
The mission of Motor Maids has always been clear: to promote safe riding habits, meet new people, and travel across North America.
And it goes even further. The club is also involved in community activities and organizes charity events to raise awareness for important causes, such as breast cancer.
In addition to their external work, the Motor Maids organize their own annual convention, held each year in a different location across the US or Canada.
The next gathering will take place in Rapid City, South Dakota, on July 5th, 2022, after a two-year pause caused by the pandemic.
During these conventions, members share stories, build friendships within the riding community, and discuss club matters. The event also includes a timed road race, self-guided regional rides, and a Motor Maids parade through the host town.
Motor Maids Annual Convention
